2001
Perfetti Van Melle Merger
In March 2001, Van Melle, the Dutch maker of the world-famous hard coated chewy Mentos candy merges with Perfetti, a privately-owned Italian company producing and distributing candies and chewing gum. Perfetti Van Melle is the world’s third largest confectionery (sugar and gum) group.

The Freshmaker
In 1990 ‘MENTOS THE FRESHMAKER’ becomes the new campaign voice. It clearly didn’t fall on deaf ears, because following its introduction Mentos sales worldwide increased dramatically.

First TV Commercial
In 1976 Mentos makes it’s own fresh, small screen debut with it’s first TV commercial.

Mentos Becomes a reality
In 1932, brothers Michael and Pierre van Melle take a train journey to Poland which sparks the beginning of a Fresh New World. They have heard of an exciting recipe for soft fruit caramels. The trip gives Pierre a vision of peppermint flavoured caramel candy that will ultimately be known as Mentos.
